Jason Sobel, Facebook Infrastructure Team, Engineering Manager
Jason Sobel is an engineering manager on the Infrastructure team at Facebook where he focuses on keeping the site fast and scalable. He helped develop Facebook's multiple datacenter strategy and also worked on Haystack, Facebook's custom built photo storage infrastructure. Before joining Facebook Jason was a member of the WAFL team at NetApp where he worked on filesystem performance. He holds bachelor's and master's degrees in computer science from Brown University.

Abstract: Today Facebook is one of the largest web properties in the world, reaching over 500 million people per month. Facebook's users demand high uptime and speedy responses which imposes massive infrastructural challenges. This talk will walk you through the evolution of our systems, from the early days of Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP to our more recent contributions like HipHop for PHP. It will also touch on our thinking around the future of social infrastructure.
