Presentation: "Hard Rock: Behind the Music with Silverlight 2"

Time: Wednesday 13:00 - 14:00

Location: Cornell

Abstract:

Come see how we turned the world's best collection of rock-and-roll memorabilia into a unique web experience with Deep Zoom. This new feature in Silverlight 2.0 makes it possible to browse and zoom into the collection with ease. We'll discuss:

  • UX ramifications and how the introduction of Deep Zoom completely changed our original design (how do you design for essentially an infinite canvas?).
  • High-end digital SLRs cap out at 20M pixels. We'll show you how to create 200M pixel images. After all, you do need something interesting to zoom into!
  • Tuning Deep Zoom for the best possible performance. With tens of thousands of tiles comprising gigabytes worth of content, you need a strategy for managing your assets.
  • Microsoft R&D has even newer tools for processing digital images. I'll show a few of the latest innovations.
