Friend: “I need to create an interactive rainstorm inside a shipping container”
Me: “You could use the Xbox Kinect to do that”
Friend: “You sound like you know what you’re doing. You do it!”
Me: O_o
I had never programmed for the Kinect before, and I had no idea what an interactive rainstorm was. This is my story of trial and error. Using C#, JavaScript, pixels and bitmaps, loops and infrared light I created a digital rainstorm inside a shipping container. After 10 months of bitmapping on my living room wall, this art installation, Rainscape, was featured in the 2015 Performance Arcade series in Wellington, New Zealand.
