Presentation: "RESTful SOA in the Real World"

Time: Wednesday 16:50 - 17:50

Location: City Room

Abstract:
SOA and REST concepts and their associated benefits are well understood for some time now.  However, people in the industry as well as academia seem to have contentious arguments about what restful SOA services mean, how they are described, implemented and consumed.  This talk presents a simple and pragmatic approach taken in a real-world high volume eCommerce platform use case on how to enable access to SOA services as REST style resources, and summarizes the learnings.

The presentation starts off with a quick recap of the SOA and REST concepts, followed by some prevalent approaches in the industry. The talk then describes an approach we took in eBay SOA platform to describe and enable RESTful access to SOA services in an optimal and highly performant fashion and concludes with our learnings and takeaways.
