Beyond the basics of how Apache Cassandra works, lies the ultimate goal: building an actual application. The team at DataStax Developer Relations has built a awesome reference application called KillrVideo and it’s time to add some features! In this workshop, you will get to spend the time thinking through an application data model. Apply business logic to your new data model and implement the actual code. We give you what you need to get started, but in the end you can show off your shiny new feature. You can use NodeJS or Java to make it happen. If you need a quick refresher of how Apache Cassandra works, you can head over to http://academy.datastax.com to get up to speed.

Key takeaways:

  • Application based Data Modeling
  • Weighing tradeoffs in Apache Cassandra
  • Advanced details of connecting to a cluster
  • Efficient coding to get data in and out of Apache Cassandra
  • Common pitfalls to avoid
