Data Movement at Very Large Scale: Real-World Examples in Capital Markets, Customer Service and Sensor Networks

Location:
Marina Room
Time:
Tuesday, 2:50pm - 3:40pm
Abstract:

Most big data strategies focus on storage and analytics, with the collection and distribution of all that information an afterthought. Using real-world examples of distributed big data systems in capital markets trading systems, mobile carrier customer service systems, and M2M sensor networks, this talk will discuss the value and challenges of efficiently moving information at big data scale. From the aggregation of distributed data for loading into Hadoop clusters to synchronizing terabyte-scale in-memory data grids across geographies, Hans will discuss techniques and tools that can increase the rate and efficiency of data flows within big data architectures.

If you have ever looked at a stock quote on the Internet, chances are you have used a system that Hans Jespersen had a hand in creating. For the past 20 years, Hans has been working with infrastructure hardware and software at pioneering Silicon Valley companies including Sun Microsystems, Yahoo, eBay, and TIBCO Software. The systems that Hans has been designing, implementing, and evangelizing are usually very large scale distributed systems based on leading edge technologies. Hans is a subject matter expert in Enterprise Architecture and Integration, Enterprise Search, and more specifically the emergence of Web Services standards, Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), and Event Driven Architecture (EDA).
