Keynote: The Imitation Game: The New Frontline of Security
Location:
- Grand Ballroom - Salon A/B/C
Day of the Week:
- Wednesday
For years, science fiction stories have been foretelling a dystopian future where humanity is engaged in a struggle against computerized enemies. What most people don’t realize is that this battle has already begun. But malevolent robots aren’t behind the recent spate of worldwide security breaches; our adversaries are our fellow humans, in the service of organized crime, developing and controlling “weak AI” tools. These tools imitate the actions of real people and abuse the interfaces we have built for our users, to click on ads, fraudulently transfer money, attempt logins to find reused passwords, and automatically identify and exploit security vulnerabilities on a global scale. We will review the evolution of these attacks, examine why dealing with them is so challenging, and look at how they are changing the nature of developing and running online applications securely, with examples from Google and others.
